General Team Information

The Makos Swim Team is open to UP and HPISD residents between the ages of 5 and 17 years. We are part of the Dallas Summer Swim League (DSSL) and are one of 14 teams that compete in dual and tri meets weekly from June through July, with the season ending at the DSSL Championships.

We believe the Makos is the perfect swim team to start your swimmer on the road to loving the sport of swimming! Our practices are fun, conducted in a safe environment, and encourage growth and personal skill development! You will find practices and meets are "no pressure" zones. There is not a requirement to compete.

Practices are held Tuesday through Friday. You have the option to register for the 7:00-8:00 am practice OR the 9:00-10:00 am practice.

Saturday practices are optional and they are ALL TEAM practices that focus on specific skills prior to meets. They are held from 7:00 - 8:00 am. All swimmers have the opportunity to attend Saturday practices.

Qualifying for the Team

We do not hold "tryouts" to qualify for the team. We ask that all swimmers be comfortable swimming 25 meters of Freestyle (Front Crawl) and 25 meters of Backstroke to be eligible for the team. This is for their own safety and the safety of those participating in the meet.

The program fee for the season is $300 per swimmer. Your fee covers a pool pass, all practices and coaching, meet entry fees, meet awards, championship awards, team swim team, swim cap, team t-shirt, sling bag and the end of season party.

Swim Meets

The DSSL holds four regular swim meets per season, (dates can be found here) as well as reserving a make-up meet in the event of inclement weather. These meets are a fun opportunity to get our swimmers out of their normal swimming environment and into new water! Meets are always held on Mondays with warm-up between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm. Meets start at 5:00pm

Meets can be hectic in nature - imagine herding 100-200 chickens towards 6 lanes of water, but they can also be a lot of fun! We ask that our team arrive early to check in, be marked for their events and warm-up prior to starting the meet.

Registration for each meet is closed on Friday at 12:00 pm. You may register HERE or on deck with the Head Coach. We will not accept any day of registrations for swim meets.

Your swimmer may register for up to 3 individual events and 2 relay events.
Registering for a relay event does not guarantee that we will have enough swimmers for all relays to make.

There is no pressure to compete. If your swimmer is not ready for a swim meet, keep attending practices or better yet, come to a meet to see what it is all about and support the Makos swimmers who are competing!

The Championship Swim Meet will be held on Monday, June 29, 2020 at the Jewish Community Center.
This is an all-day swim meet.
